St. Luke University Parish wasfounded in 2007 with a distinct purpose: to connect the Grand Valley State University Catholic community to the greater Allendale community and to serve both communities and beyond.

St. Luke's is the first new parish in our diocese in 30 years, and our church community is literally building itself from the ground up. From our very first Masses in the rotunda of Allendale Christian School and at GVSU’s Cook-DeWitt Center, we have embraced our missionary role by growing our church family and establishing our presence on campus and in the community.

We are now leasing a new space at 6163 Lake Michigan Drive in a strip mall. This gives us more space for meetings and all the other activities of a vibrant parish. But this is still a temporary location and we can see that we are already filling the building to capacity at times.

The next step is to build a permanent home for our parish. Through our Build And They Will Come campaign, we will create a home for all parish activities: worship, ministry, evangelization, faith formation, outreach, as well as parish and community social events.

Capital Stewardship Campaign Prayer

O God of all things new,
send your Spirit to fill us with the fire of Your love!
You have brought us together as members of Saint Luke University Parish
to live and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We seek Your guidance and wisdom as we look to construct a building for Your People.
Guided by Saint Luke and Saint Paul, bless our campaign
and help us to discern how best to share our gifts and talents.
Give us Your wisdom to find new ways to serve You and share Your Word in western Michigan.
We entrust ourselves to Your care and guidance
that Your Spirit will create in us a new enthusiasm to form a community that reflects Your love and care.
For you are Mighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for ever and always. Amen.

News

We have begin selling tickets for the Car Raffle. We hope to raise upwards of $80,000 for the building fund. There are plans on inviting students to participate in the fall. Also, next November is the 20th Anniversary of the Cook-DeWitt Center on the GVSU Campus, which is where we have Mass on Sundays during the school year. We will have some special events near then to help our campaign.

March 10, 2011
Initial phases of the Campaign are complete. We want to continue to welcome new members and ask them to contribute. We are also talking with our student leaders on how best to involve the students in the Campaign, since future students will benefit from the success of St. Luke's.

January 25, 2011 (The Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul)
We have completed the move from the old office space to the new location. Carpet is in, the offices are completed, and most of the build-out is complete.

December 24, 2010
Our first Mass at the new location. We had a great crowd. Work continues, so we will not be able to be in full-time until January.

November 15, 2010
We have signed a lease for the space at 6163 Lake Michigan Drive. Built for retail, we are beginning to remodel the interior to meet our needs. The Knights of Columbus are spearheading the work.

September 1, 2010
We continue to progress towards our goal.

May 9, 2010
91 of our 184 parishioners have pledged $386,247 towards our $750,000 parish goal. This is half our parishioners, and over half of our goal - plus we have members who have pledged prayers, members pledging participation in our fundraiser, and members who have pledged proceeds from services and goods they provide! Our goal is to have 100 percent of our parishioners involved.

April 28, 2010
Update: 77 families participating as of April 28.
EVERYONE has a role to play in the Build - and they will come Campaign. If you have turned in your commitment card, thank you! If not, please pick one up in church or the parish office, complete and return it by May 7. Your response will save the parish additional mailings and phone calls. Regardless of the amount of your gift, we ask that you return a commitment card so that parish leadership can plan appropriately for the future.
